Ken Jy Die See?
Honouring coastal voices in their own language through a sustainable effort.
This brief challenged us to develop an integrated campaign in one of South Africa’s official languages other than English. The goal was to explore how language, culture, and visual storytelling intersect to create communication that feels authentic and locally resonant. We were required to choose a brand, identify a target audience, and craft a campaign that expresses its message clearly across multiple touchpoints without relying on translation. For our response, we collaborated with Sealand to create “Ken jy die see?”, a campaign that connects the brand’s sustainability mission with Afrikaans coastal identity. Inspired by Uys Krige’s poem “Ken jy die see?”, the campaign celebrates language as a vessel for culture and repositions Afrikaans as a voice for care, community, and environmental consciousness.
